Job Purpose:

The Teaching and Learning Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing teaching and learning at MBZUAI by designing and supporting evidence-based instructional strategies, guidelines, and policies, and contributing to faculty development initiatives. The specialist also supports the center’s activities by coordinating events, liaising with external speakers and collaborators, conducting research, preparing and disseminating content for the center’s internal and external communications in collaboration with staff and faculty, and proposing new initiatives.  The Specialist collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and external experts to promote high-impact teaching practices and ensure student engagement and success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work closely with the Director, Associate Director, CTL staff, and faculty to implement and improve teaching and learning events and initiatives.
  • Coordinate efforts with colleagues to ensure consistency and effectiveness across programs.
  • Administer and oversee activities related to incentives for teaching innovation and excellence, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Facilitate student inclusion to enhance inclusive learning environments.

Program Development & Delivery:

  • Conduct research and develop evidence-based guidelines and resources to publish internally and externally through the CTL public website.
  • Coordinate events and seek external speakers and collaborators to foster dialogue and collaboration around AI and teaching and learning
  • Coordinate internal communications and promote the center’s initiatives and activities.
  • Support the implementation of teaching-related initiatives.
  • Provide input into key faculty and student development programs, including:
    • New Faculty Orientation.
    • Professional Development and Faculty Peer Observation.
    • AI guidelines and policies.
  • Support in student-centered programs, such as certification of teaching assistants, student evaluation initiatives, and student peer tutoring.

Other duties:

  • Carry out all other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager that are commensurate with these functional objectives.

Academic Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.

Professional Experience:

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education.
  • Expertise in curriculum design, learning outcome assessment, and innovative pedagogical practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders while managing multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.
  • High proficiency in verbal and written English.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Background in research-informed teaching strategies and institutional effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and strategies for diverse student populations.
