MBZUAI is seeking an Associate Head of Studio to support the delivery of high-quality multimedia content produced by the University’s media studio. The role focuses on hands-on production, technical execution, and quality control across video, audio, and editorial outputs, ensuring consistency from creative vision through to final delivery. Working closely with the Head of Studio and creative teams, the Associate Head of Studio contributes to studio planning, production workflows, and day-to-day execution, helping translate ideas into polished, audience-ready content.

 

Key Responsibilities

Studio Production & Execution

  • Support day-to-day studio production activities, ensuring projects progress smoothly from planning to final delivery.
  • Act as a senior hands-on producer across studio outputs, contributing directly to filming, editing, and post-production where required.
  • Support the application of studio workflows, timelines, and production standards.

Vodcast, Podcast & Video Formats

  • Contribute to end-to-end vodcast and podcast production, including pre-production planning, filming, editing, and post-production.
  • Apply strong editing skills to produce high-quality video and audio outputs suitable for digital platforms and large-format screens.
  • Support audio recording, mixing, and basic sound design to ensure clarity and consistency across studio content.

Quality Control & Review

  • Review all studio productions to ensure quality and consistency across visuals, audio, subtitles, graphics, and overall storytelling.
  • Ensure outputs accurately reflect the intended creative vision and meet MBZUAI’s brand and tone-of-voice guidelines.
  • Identify technical or editorial issues and support corrective edits prior to publication.

Camera, Lighting & Technical Operations

  • Operate and support camera systems, lighting setups, and studio equipment during filming.
  • Apply working knowledge of framing, composition, lighting, and sound capture to achieve professional-quality results.
  • Support studio setup and breakdown for different production formats and recording scenarios.

AI-Enabled Video Production

  • Apply AI video generation and augmentation tools to support studio outputs, including text-to-video, visual enhancement, motion graphics, subtitles, and workflow automation.
  • Support responsible and brand-safe use of AI tools in video production, ensuring outputs are accurate, ethical, and aligned with institutional standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging AI-driven production techniques and contribute ideas to improve efficiency and creative experimentation.

Video Journalism & Storytelling

  • Support the identification and production of story-led content featuring faculty, students, researchers, partners, and leadership.
  • Conduct or assist with on-camera interviews and field filming as required.
  • Contribute to shaping narratives that translate complex topics into clear and engaging stories.

Event & Campus Coverage

  • Support studio coverage of university events, lectures, workshops, and launches.
  • Produce or assist with highlight reels, social clips, and documentary-style features suitable for multiple platforms.
  • Ensure captured footage is technically sound, well-organized, and ready for editing or archiving.

Content Planning & Collaboration

  • Contribute to studio content planning and scheduling in coordination with the Head of Studio, Head of Creative, and Head of Content Strategy.
  • Work closely with social media, campaigns, and communications teams to ensure content is optimized for different channels.
  • Support alignment between video, audio, and written content.

Asset Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the organization, tagging, and maintenance of studio assets for easy retrieval and reuse.
  • Keep up to date with evolving production tools, editing techniques, and AI-enabled workflows, applying improvements where appropriate.

Academic Qualifications Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Film Production, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • A postgraduate degree will be preferred.

Professional Experience Required
Essential:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in multimedia, video, or content production.
  • Strong hands-on editing skills across video and audio.
  • Practical experience with camera operation, lighting, and studio setups.
  • Working experience with AI video generation or AI-assisted production tools.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality content under tight timelines.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
  • Demonstrated portfolio across video, audio, and editorial content.
