Job Purpose:
MBZUAI is seeking a skilled and bilingual Web Developer with 5–6 years of experience to join its Marketing and Communications Department. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining the university’s digital platforms, including WordPress-based, Drupal or other modern web technologies websites and microsites, while supporting data-driven communication strategies. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, fluency in Arabic and English, and a proven ability to deliver responsive, accessible, and high-performance web solutions that enhance MBZUAI’s digital presence and engagement with regional and global audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize MBZUAI’s WordPress-based websites, microsites, and digital campaign landing pages, ensuring alignment with branding and strategic marketing goals.
- Customize WordPress themes, plugins, and layouts using custom code to deliver responsive, visually appealing, and user-friendly experiences across all devices and browsers.
- Manage all technical aspects of CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Joomla), including regular updates, performance optimization, security patches, and scalability enhancements.
- Plan and support the transition to a new CMS platform (e.g., Drupal, Laravel, or Headless CMS), working closely with internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with designers, content creators, analytics specialists, and marketing strategists to deliver integrated web solutions that support user engagement, SEO performance, and institutional messaging.
- Build and optimize bilingual (Arabic-English) websites, ensuring accurate language switching, RTL functionality, and cultural relevance for regional audiences.
- Execute the full web development lifecycle, including coding, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting, while upholding code quality standards and accessibility compliance.
- Conduct routine site backups, resolve technical issues, and provide technical support during campaigns, events, and digital rollouts.
- Monitor and analyze website traffic, user behavior, and conversion metrics using tools such as Google Analytics and Tag Manager to inform continuous improvement and data-driven decisions.
- Create and manage web content and landing pages optimized for SEO, performance, and user experience, in coordination with the content and analytics teams.
- Ensure proper multilingual support, with focus on Arabic content, RTL layout compliance, and translation workflows.
- Perform regular site audits and implement enhancements to improve load times, accessibility, compliance with web standards, and cross-platform functionality.
- Stay current with industry trends in web development, CMS advancements, and emerging digital technologies to ensure MBZUAI’s platforms remain innovative and competitive.
- Carry out all other duties as reasonably directed by the Line Manager, to support the department and MBZUAI’s objectives.
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field.
- A postgraduate degree will be preferred.
Professional Experience:
Essential
- Minimum of 5–6 years of experience in software or web development.
- Strong proficiency in WordPress development, including custom themes, plugins, and multisite setups.
- Experience in statistical analysis, marketing performance analysis, or research.
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and verbal.
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, and performance optimization.
- Solid knowledge of server-side development and programming languages (e.g., PHP, Python, Ruby).
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Tag Manager, SEO best practices, and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Preferred
- Experience in developing websites or web applications for educational or research institutions.
- Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations related to educational and research institutions.
