Vacancy Overview

Application Open:

Full-Time

The Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of Research Infrastructure digital platforms. Supporting compute credit management, PI/project dashboards, Slurm-based job visibility, usage tracking, chargeback reporting, and role-based access for faculty, students, administrators, and leadership.

Working closely with research infrastructure, research administration, finance, IT and backend engineering teams, the role will build scalable web capabilities that make resource usage, rates, balances, and cluster activity transparent and easy to manage.

Key Responsibilities

Research Infrastructure Platforms, Frontend, UX & Design System

• Own the frontend for Research Infrastructure digital platforms using React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, delivering responsive and consistent experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
• Connect HPC and financial workflows into clear information architecture, navigation, forms, tables, charts, alerts, and actionable error messages.
• Collect use feedback, usage analytics, and usability testing with faculty and researchers to continuously improve the PI portal, user and administration interface.

PI Portal & Self-Service Workflows:
• Build the PI workspace for viewing available computed credit balance, initial allocation, additional credits added, total credits received, credits used, project balances, and student-level consumption.
• Develop secure workflows for creating projects, assigning or removing members, transferring credits for project pools and researchers, and reviewing transaction history.
• Present clear resource rates and policies for cluster resources such as H200 and A100 GPUs, CPU nodes, storage, backup, priority tiers, and free-tier services.

Dashboards, Reporting & Observability:
• Design interactive dashboards for compute credit utilization, consumption, spending trends, project and student activity, job status, queue health, and resource availability.
• Create role-appropriate views for PIs, students, administrators, and university leadership, with filters, drilldowns, exports, and monthly reporting.
• Integrate Grafana, Prometheus, and platform telemetry where appropriate while maintaining consistent terminology and a unified digital platforms experience.

Platform Integration, Security & Data:
• Integrate the portal with university ERP, PostgreSQL, Slurm, cluster monitoring, storage, cloud, and university financial services through well-defined REST or gRPC APIs.
• Apply role-based access control and least-privilege authorization for PI, student, administrator, finance, and leadership functions, with auditable sensitive actions.
• Collaborating on API contracts, data models, validation rules, and failure handling so compute credit utilization information remains accurate, traceable, and understandable.

Engineering Delivery & Quality:
• Lead technical design reviews, maintain system and user documentation, mentor engineers, and deliver incrementally through Agile planning and stakeholder demonstrations.
• Contribute to scalable full-stack architecture and implement backend services or integration components using Java/Spring Boot or comparable enterprise technologies when required.
• Build automated units, integration, end-to-end, accessibility, performance, and regression tests for critical portal workflows.

Academic Qualifications Required
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Professional Experience Required
Essential:
• Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience delivering enterprise web platforms, including substantial ownership of frontend or full-stack development.
• Strong hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, responsive UI development, reusable component design, and frontend testing.
• Demonstrated ability to turn complex operational or financial data into intuitive dashboards, workflows, and visualizations for non-technical users.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs; experience with Java, Spring Boot, gRPC, microservices, or comparable backend frameworks.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL, including data modeling, query optimization, and reliable transaction handling.
• Experience integrating enterprise identity providers and implementing SSO, role-based access control, audit logging, and secure web-development practices.
• Experience with Git-based delivery, automated testing, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, production troubleshooting, and monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana.
• Strong architecture, problem-solving, documentation, stakeholder communication, and Agile delivery skills; able to lead design discussions and mentor engineers.
• Professional English proficiency, with the ability to explain technical and data concepts clearly to faculty, administrators, and business stakeholders

Preferred:
• HPC environment experience with Slurm, GPU/CPU resource accounting, quotas, job scheduling, or research-computing portals.
• Experience building multi-tenant, data-intensive, cloud-native, or distributed platforms with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, or similar technologies.
• Creating operational dashboards or integrating Grafana, Prometheus, or other observability platforms experience
• Worked at a higher education, research institution, smart-city, geospatial, or other mission-critical environments.
• AI application experience with assistants or guided workflows to improve product usability and user support.
• Experience with asset management, inventory systems, CMDB, maintenance tracking, ERP, procurement, finance, or service-management platforms is an advantage.
