Job Purpose:

The community manager will play a pivotal role in fostering, growing, and sustaining an engaged, collaborative open-source community around our key projects. This position aims to bridge the gap between research and the wider technical community by effectively communicating project developments, soliciting valuable contributions, and nurturing an inclusive environment for innovation. Through strategic outreach, content creation, and community support, the Community Manager will ensure that MBZUAI becomes a leading force in the global open-source landscape on AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the growth of our open-source community from projects such as LLM360.ai.
  • Command our social media strategies, content curation, and community engagement to build a loyal follower base that leads to conversions.
  • Craft compelling blog posts, produce educational explainer videos, and develop impactful marketing collateral by translating conversations with researchers and engineers. into engaging social media narratives.
  • Inspire, recruit, and support new users and contributors.
  • Solicit, gather, and share feedback from users with the rest of the team.
  • Coordinate and support local meetups and user groups.
  • Act as a liaison with other relevant open-source projects and communities. Mediate and resolve conflicts between internal teams and external community members when necessary
  • Organize Webinars, and other events
  • Track and report on key performance indicators related to open-source engagement and project progress.
  • Ensure all open-source contributions and usage comply with relevant licenses and company policies.
  • Represent MBZUAI at industry conferences and events, showcasing the institution’s cutting-edge HPC and deep learning capabilities and establishing MBZUAI as a global leader in AI research and innovation.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property and thought leadership in the field open-source AGI.
  • Perform all other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager that are commensurate with these functional objectives.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related technical field or the equivalent professional experience.

Professional Experience:

  • Experience managing open-source projects or/and communities.
  • Proficiency in managing social media platforms and creating engaging online content.
  • Technical background in software development, data science, or related fields.
  • Thorough knowledge of the AGI research community and software market, open-source key players, and main projects.
  • Knowledge of open-source licensing and compliance issues.
  • Experience in organizing and running open-source events or hackathons.
  • Contributions to notable open-source projects or communities.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address complex technical challenges.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross functional teams.
