Job Purpose:
The Business Intelligence Developer will take the responsibility to transform university data into intuitive and reliable visualizations that empower stakeholders across the institution. Working as the frontend and data developer, the Business Intelligence Developer will design, develop, and maintain sophisticated dashboards and reporting solutions, working closely with business owners to define and implement parameter-based KPIs that support strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities:
Dashboard Development & Maintenance:
- Design and develop interactive, real-time dashboards using Power BI and Tableau to provide comprehensive views of university performance metrics.
- Create user-friendly visualizations that transform complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
- Build responsive dashboard solutions that work seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.
- Implement automated refresh schedules and data validation processes to ensure dashboard accuracy and reliability.
- Optimize dashboard performance for large datasets and concurrent user access.
Data Integration & Pipelining:
- Work with IT team to design and implement ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from multiple university systems including student information systems, financial databases, research management platforms, and operational systems
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines connecting Snowflake data warehouse to visualization platforms.
- Create and maintain data models that support efficient querying and visualization performance.
- Ensure data consistency and quality across all reporting platforms through validation and testing procedures.
KPI Development & Implementation:
- Collaborate with business owners across departments to understand requirements and define key performance indicators.
- Establish data collection methodologies and measurement frameworks for institutional KPIs.
- Develop parameter-based KPI framework that allow for flexible metric definition and tracking based on business owner specifications.
- Create standardized KPI libraries and templates for consistent reporting across the university.
- Implement alert systems and exception reporting to notify stakeholders of significant metric changes or threshold breaches.
Business Intelligence Strategy:
- Partner with stakeholders to identify reporting needs and translate business requirements into a technical solution.
- Develop self-service analytics capabilities that empower end-users to create their own reports and visualizations.
- Establish best practices for dashboard design, data visualization, and user experience.
- Maintain documentation for all BI solutions, including data dictionaries, user guides, and technical specifications.
Data Governance & Security:
- Implement role-based access controls and data security measures in all BI solutions.
- Ensure compliance with university data governance policies and privacy regulations.
- Maintain audit trails and usage analytics for all dashboard and reporting activities.
- Collaborate with Security teams to ensure secure data access and transmission.
Compliance & Ethics:
- Adhere to data governance policies, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, FERPA), and ethical guidelines during retrieval.
- Secure sensitive data through encrypted transfers and access controls.
Other Duties:
- Perform all other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager that are commensurate with these functional objectives.
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related technical field.
Professional Experience:
Essential
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in business intelligence, data visualization, or analytics development.
- Proven track record at successful dashboard implementation in enterprise environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
- Good understanding of API integration and web services.
- Tableau and Power BI: Expert-level skills in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and Tableau Prep, or Advanced proficiency including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service administration.
- Database Management: Strong experience with Snowflake data warehouse, including SQL optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning.
- Data Modeling: With experience designing star schema, snowflake schema, and dimensional modeling.
- Statistical Analysis: Strong foundation in statistical methods, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
- Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong analytical thinking with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for business users. Good experience conducting user training and creating documentation. Proven ability to handle multiple projects with priorities simultaneously.
- Language: Strong English proficiency at both technical and business parts, with fluency in additional languages as a plus.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in related fields.
- Experience in higher education or research institutions to handle educational data and higher education metrics to support executive-level reporting and analytics.
- Tableau Desktop Certified Associate or Power BI certification.
