This role requires a technically proficient individual and a master storyteller who can translate highly complex AI concepts into compelling narratives. The lead will be responsible for launching the university’s technologies and research as products, building brand equity, and establishing the IFM as a world leader. This individual must be a fearless, creative self-starter, capable of working with and taking direction from senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Integrated Marketing Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), aligning with the university’s broader objectives. This includes defining target audiences, messaging, and a multi-channel plan that touches every aspect of marketing.

Technical Storytelling & Narrative Development:

  • Act as the storyteller for the IFM. Weave compelling narratives around new technologies and products as they are developed and introduced.
  • Translate complex technical details into accessible and inspiring stories that resonate with both technical and non-technical global audiences.

Product & Technology Launches:

  • Lead the go-to-market (GTM) strategy and execution for all IFM product launches. This includes market positioning, asset creation, and coordinating a cross-functional launch plan to maximize impact and adoption.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Serve as the primary marketing liaison for the IFM. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you must also collaborate with the Director of Communications, and their respective teams for initiatives such as Social Media, PR, Creative, Brand, Technical Marketing, and the Podcast Studio to create cohesive and powerful campaigns.

Event Marketing Leadership:

  • Jointly conceive and manage the event marketing strategy for the IFM, which will be a significant part of the marketing mix. This includes proprietary events, and a major presence at key international academic and industry conferences, with a focus on activities in Abu Dhabi, the USA, and Paris.

Content & Campaign Execution:

  • Drive the creation of a wide range of marketing assets, including technical blogs, whitepapers, keynote presentations, product demos, and event materials that effectively communicate the value and innovation of the IFM’s work.

Brand & Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all marketing activities and content strictly adhere to MBZUAI’s brand guidelines and high standards of quality, reinforcing the university’s position as a premier institution for artificial intelligence.

Market & Trend Analysis:

  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in the AI industry, particularly in foundational models, as well as emerging marketing strategies, to ensure the IFM’s marketing efforts are innovative and impactful.

Other duties:

  • Carry out all other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager and senior divisional manager that are commensurate with these functional objectives.

Academic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field is required.
  • A postgraduate qualification is preferred.

Professional Experience:

Essential

  • A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in technology marketing, with a significant focus on AI, machine learning, or deep tech sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in product marketing and leading go-to-market strategies for new, highly technical products.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling stories and marketing campaigns for a global audience.
  • Experience managing integrated marketing campaigns across a full range of channels, including digital, PR, content, and major events.
  • Exceptional ability to operate as a self-starter, taking initiative in a dynamic environment.
